Hello, I'm China Marie

I’ve been in the health and beauty industry for as long as I can remember, it runs in my blood.My father was a remedial massage therapist and clinic owner. 

I was helping out with his business from the age of 12, and so my passion began.

I opened my first massage and beauty salon when I was 19, with a 6K loan in my pocket and a fire in my belly so hot that no one or nothing could put it out – and trust me they tried.

Over 6 years, I grew my self-operated business into a thriving salon, employing multiple staff. During those years, I fell in love with the management and marketing side of the salon industry.

My passion for business development, marketing and growth became so intense I could no longer keep it to myself. I had spent years consuming mountains of business and marketing strategies, converting them to easily implementable, salon specific approaches.

Through this development, I saw the value in what I had learned, and felt deeply compelled to save other salon owners the anguish I went through, by sharing my knowledge and helping others succeed.

I launched from salon owner to full-time salon coach 6 years ago, and have never looked back. The joy I get from helping business owners smash their goals, earn what they deserve and support life outside their business is second to none!

I promise you we don’t have to kill ourselves and stay up till 1am every morning just to get it all done, you can get off that treadmill and get your life back all while increasing your profit. You can kick goals, create a financially abundant business and have a fulfilling life outside of your business.

Borrow my belief

I know that may seem like a big stretch or even impossible but please don’t worry, today you can borrow my belief – my belief in you, in your business and in this industry – Ive sat in your headspace before, ive sat in fear, in exhaustion, in lack – finically, emotionally and physically – and trust me I know how painful it is……. but the good news is I know how great it can be on the other side AND I know how to get there!! 

I LOVE to lay down the tracks of success for salon, spa and clinic owners, all you need to do is follow them — obviously if you are reading this it doesn’t mean that your business is not a success – but lets face it, I think you would agree that there is always more room in our lives for more success? More financial rewards for our hard work? YES?

Let me tell you why and how I got here today!!

I have transitioned my business from low profit, just getting by, to tripling my income over a 12-month period. Using the exact methods I teach to this day!

 

Unfortunately, that 12 months was NOT my first 12 months in business. have you ever made big changes in their businesses e.g moving to a larger location and expected things to grow and flourish but nothing “really” changed and you got left high and dry?? 

Well that was me, after my first year I decided it was time to go bigger and better, hire more therapists and build my business fast!!

So that’s exactly what I did, I found a new location which was bigger, better AND more expensive – I was sooooo excited, I was sure this was going to make a massive difference for my back pocket….

So we got settled, it was a beautiful space, we put up our BIG sign on the road for the world to see, we told EVERYONE we had moved and sent out a 10% or 20% discount on all services and we waited.

At this stage there were two of us treating and nothing was happening…… sooooo we began to get VERY bored – It was like we were the invisible business, now more so than ever and I was so FRUSTRATED!

Not long after that my only therapist left, and I felt like I had hit rock bottom, I was in a new building paying more than ever, more than I could afford AND I was right back at square one!!

 

After sitting around hoping and dreaming of some kind of miracle for a few weeks I decided it was time for some serious action – and good old google came to my rescue. I spend weeks and weeks searching for solutions. I decided I was going to change EVERYTHING, I needed a good booking system that would integrate everything for me, I needed to get clients through my doors SOMEHOW and I needed to start really showing up emotionally, physically and mentally for my business every single day if I wanted to  make it work. 

How I turned things around

So I buckled down. I started looking at business coaches and I did find a few, they were abrupt, salesy and NONE of them had owned a salon before BUTTTT that’s all I could find so I went with it – I was given booklets on increasing my profits, all the sums on how to charge more and get more out of my clients, all the math and figures on how to get more and to me it was all to bloody confusing and I wondered if I don’t have clients how can I squeeze more out of them.

So it ended up being tossed to the side and that money was poured down the drain, I bought ebooks that waffled on for days about tips and tricks for the industry again I was thinking HOW do I get NEW clients in my door and get them rebooking. 

So After doing training after training, learning about online and offline marketing, creating specials, packages, memberships and everything else under the sun I was finally bringing a steady stream of new clients through my doors. Unfortunately the style of marketing I was being taught was very brash and tacky- Kind of like the Harvey Norman tv ad equivalent for beauty salon – yelling at my audience though my print and digital marketing and NOT portraying what my business was really all about at all.

Stillll Turning...

At that stage I had needed money so badly I let my business come across tacky and cheap so of course I was attracting the wrong clients, I wasn’t building relationships and I wasn’t rebooking. Can you relate to attracting the wrong kind of clients???

The barging hunters, the once a year clients, the no showers, the entitled, the 30 minute late clients – you know the ones I mean!

Not only was I attracting the wrong kind of clients but I was spending an Arm and Leg on radio ads, newspaper ads, tv ads and Facbook ads, I was literally dishing out thousands every month and was NOT getting an ROI.

 

That’s when I decided I had enough information from all of the above to create my own style, attract the right clients and create a buzzing business. I wanted something elegant, sexy, affordable, stable, consistent AND Responsive. Something full of substance and I set about creating exactly that. I had no system in place I was just creating marketing as I needed it. I spent many many hours, many very late nights infront of my computer. I had lot of wild ideas, I was buzzing, I was rebooking and I was creating great relationships with my clients.

 

Now it was time to start a new therapist, I found the perfect girl, Kathy, she was bubbly, very qualified and ready to work. I kicked started her at 3 days a week and couldn’t wait to fill her schedule. At this stage I was unconsciously competent in what I was doing and I went ahead and unpacked her skills, put together a rocking well – crafted ad and filled her schedule, unfortunately at this stage I hadn’t come up with the  void or the life-long client relationships techniques – which Ill share with you later today, so Kathys business was literally like a siv, we’d book them for a great package, they’d love it but they never rebooked, Kathy didn’t have the relationship building touch nor did she have a clue how to rebook, so every single week we were back at square one having to advertise, create more packages then fill the book again with one hit wonder appointments.

Once again here I was pulling my hair out, how could she not get this stuff – have you been in this situation with staff members before?? Yep I think we’ve all been there!!

 

What I realized at this stage is really having a system for that stuff is my job, as the business owner. Kathy had gone to school to learn how to be a therapist, no a relationships master or a sales person, I needed to come up with an easy system for all staff members and thus I started looking closer at my unconscious competence and trying to figure out what I was doing and how I could create a system for my staff to follow. This process was neither fast nor easy, it took me a couple years to really get it down on paper; it was painfully slow but WELL worth it.

Now I had a whole set of systems to allow consistency and profit to flow into my business and I was ready to grow again and this time it was big, I decided to purchase a block and build a purpose built clinic where I could settle and have the exact set up I wanted.

So of course I dived in head first again, I was mid build and I was searching everywhere for another good therapist, it took months to find the right person but finally July showed up and she had everything I was looking for, great qualifications, maturity a warm personality and experience, she relocated for the position and kicked off as soon as our building was ready. It all started out just rosy, she learnt all the systems, was following all the policies and procedures and worked 3 days a week on a casual hourly wage. July was a single mum and I had committed to giving her at least 25hrs a week to keep her in my business BUTTT it wasn’t long before little cracks began to show in her personality, July wasn’t connecting with the clients and had no interest in truly servicing them, she had no passion for the business, and no respect for me. She wasn’t re-booking even using the systems, she just wanted her pay check every week. This time I was really at a loss, she was perfect on paper not so great on the floor – Can you relate to this experience? 

Success & Road Blocks

At this stage I realized that even with all the right interviewing questions and ALL the possible precautions I still had no way of guaranteeing someone will be right for the industry let alone my business and I could think of no possible way to get around this, yes trial periods all that sort of thing but in a town of people who like consistency and the familiar having too many therapists coming and going is a death sentence to your reputation. So I just sat in the pain of it, totally lost, frustrated and OVER IT!!!

And it truly wasn’t until a couple of years ago that the fog lifted and I found a solution to this massive industry problem; although in the mean time I did finally managed to find beautiful therapists and reception staff BUT only really by trial and error. It was not a fun process, as im sure most of you know!!

Mid 2016 was when I began to learn about and understand giftedness, not only my own but every single human being and their individual giftedness – I learnt about my own unique gift combination and have since come to understanf how impactful that combination is in my life, my work, my passion and my connection with the world.  Funnily enough my highest gift is Systemization, haha and I though ahh no wonder I have to make a system or a procedure for EVERYTHING then the second highest was beautification thus my fascination with this industry, in my gifts I also have, Service, helping, giving and healing.

The game Changer

Once I had wrapped my head around how our gifts works and what it means to understand your own gifts and the gifts of others it slapped me right in the face. THIS IS WHAT OUR INDUSTRY NEEDS!!!! If my therapists don’t have AT LEAST the gift of service and helping how on earth can I expect them to spend all day attempting to serve and help clients????? It all became clear, if business owners in this industry and all industry hired their staff according to their gift assessments we would always get the most impeccable person for the job, skills can be taught, personality and natural talent cannot!!

As I said I took my business from a low profit just getting by to a 6 figure income in a town of just over 1000 people and along the way I have created exact systems and procedure of exactly how I did it, imagine what you can do with these systems in a city of over 2 million people!!!
