The Power Of B2B Referrals  

Many years ago when I owned my massage & beauty salon, I decided to tap into the wedding market to throw bridal party spa days & figure out how I could get them booking consistently with me. 

Most of us know that the wedding market is one of the most difficult & expensive markets you can tap into when it comes to advertising your services. I started by taking a look at all my options such as: bridal magazines, attending expos & even using Facebook ads.  However, after a little while I realized that if I tried to cold market these bride’s I’d probably end up spending a LOT more money for a much smaller result, than if I could tap into a warmer market.  

So, I started looking around in my local area & I found a few businesses that were dealing with brides every single day & who had already built a strong connection with them. All I needed to do then was figure out how to get those businesses referring their brides to me – which is exactly what I did.

I put together a well-crafted ad, JUST for brides & I approached a few different places that were holding weddings & accommodating bridal parties. I sent out an email expressing that I absolutely love what they do & that I had put together an exclusive package just for their brides at an incredible price.  

Within a couple of days, I received an email back saying “We absolutely love this idea. We have 25 weddings in the next 20 weeks and we’re also thinking about holding girl’s weekends. We would love to work with you!” So, this strategy gave me 25 weddings in 20 weeks for FREE, with a business that these brides already trusted. 

I don’t know about you, but if I was a bride-to-be who had been chatting with a venue back and forth & asked “Hey, do you know anywhere that we can have a beautiful girl’s day before the wedding?” and they told me “Yes, here is the perfect place!” I would absolutely trust that recommendation, as they had already built a rapport with me. This strategy allows you to get a consistent flow of NEW high-quality clients without spending a single cent.  

In saying this, you need to be VERY careful that the businesses you’re building partnerships with are serving your IDEAL client. If you haven’t done so already, you need to figure out exactly where your ideal client is spending her time & then pin-point those businesses. For example: where do they buy their clothes? Where do they eat their lunch & drink their coffee? Where do they go to the gym, if they do?

Once you have identified those businesses, the next step is to reach out to them in the form of a letter. Personally, I loved sending a beautiful bottle of Champaign with a letter that says “Hey, I love what you guys are doing with this beautiful clothing store & since your ideal clients are also my ideal clients, I want to give you an EXCLUSIVE offer just for your customers to use” What this does is it allows the business you’re getting in contact with to gain MORE respect with their clients, as they’re now offering something that I couldn’t offer before! 

You also don’t have to pay this business anything to refer people to you, as it’s building THEIR brand and their reputation, while you’re benefiting as well – WIN/WIN!

You want to make sure that this system is suuuuuper simple for them to implement. Now, your homework is to list down FIVE businesses in your local area who are serving your IDEAL client. They could be coffee shops, gyms, clothing stores, hairdressers, or even other salons who aren’t in competition with you. Decide what gift you’re going to send them & write out a thoughtful, personalized letter. There is a huuuuge range of different businesses you can connect with that will allow you to bring a lot more money!
